We looked like idiots, sitting on the carpeted hallway of that hotel and trying to undermine the other by staring blankly - or what we took for a deathly expression.
“You know what sucks? Well, they damn well said life was unfair, but then so are all the things in it. You know what’s one of the most unfair things in life? Having different priorities. You see that person and meet that person and how all those stories end, you love that person? So then they become the center of your attention and you never realize until you’re thrown away that you’re being an idiot because you’ve always been just an option in theirs. Let’s not even romanticize that. You spend all your time doing and thinking of one thing because it’s topped your damn priorities and everything ends up being overlooked because you’re the only one who prioritized it? Well, that just sucks because only then you’d realize how much you fucking wasted.”
“I do, actually. I mean, I know.”
And then suddenly, we were just there. In that moment, we were just there, because we both knew how it was to be hurled away on one corner while everyone else spun their lives on their muddied little fingers.
